With a musical style characterized by sophisticated pedal work and subtle use of overtones, PLW is a pioneer of new piano techniques. His music has furthered the development of multiple, simultaneous melody lines and the overlaying of overtones, bringing to the piano a dynamic complexity of beautiful sound. Though PLW's roots in compositional style are with Debussy and Ravel, what distinguishes his unique style is his fusion of Impressionism with Asian musical traditions.
Morevoer, Paul's music is an outgrowth of the years he lived in the Hawaiian islands, specifically Maui and Oahu. It is a music which is exuberant, life-affirming, uplifting, yet deeply reflective and profound. The compositions in this CD were born in the composer's experience in nature. In some ways this is a new musical genre which the composer calls PROGRESSIVE CLASSICAL, combining classical with the spiritual qualities of Asian and world music.
The most beautiful contemporary piano music of our time. I have never heard anything more perfectly played. This is brilliant music. S.W. San Francisco
Paul Lloyd Warner's piano music is marvelous to hear and behold. I have never heard anything like it. The fastest arpeggios in the world with a harp like sound. Breathtaking. M.H. Chicago, IL
I heard him in concert and was overwhelmed. His use of overtones is entirely original. I have my classical favorites and Mr. Warner reaches new heights in pianism and beauty. R.F. Boston
